Family Photography FAQs
What should we wear for our family photos?
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and like yourselves.
Soft, neutral tones tend to photograph beautifully, and it’s best to avoid large logos or very bold patterns but nothing needs to be too “perfect”.
Flowy fabrics, cosy knits, and simple outfits work really well both at home and outdoors.

Where will our family photography session take place?
That’s completely up to you.
Some families choose a relaxed session at home, where everything feels familiar and easy—especially with younger children.
Others prefer heading outdoors, making the most of the beautiful parks, beaches and open spaces across Edinburgh and West Lothian.
If you’re unsure, I’m very happy to suggest locations that suit your family and the kind of feel you’re drawn to.
What if my children don’t sit still or won’t cooperate?
Honestly – this is exactly what I expect.
Children don’t need to sit still for beautiful photos. Some of the most meaningful moments come from them playing, exploring, or just being themselves.
I keep sessions relaxed and flexible, so there’s no pressure for anyone to behave a certain way. We simply go with the flow.
Can we include our dog or other pets?
Absolutely – pets are always welcome.
They’re such a big part of family life, and including them often makes sessions feel even more natural and relaxed.
What if our home feels a bit messy or chaotic?
Please don’t worry about that at all.
You don’t need a perfect house for beautiful photos. I’ll work with the light and spaces you have, and we’ll keep things simple and natural.
